Justice Outside: Rebrand and Strategy

Formerly known as Youth Outside, Justice Outside is an environmental justice organization that works primarily in California, the Southwest, and the Pacific Northwest. Their work seeks to dismantle systemic racism inherent in outdoor and environmental movement spaces with an approach that includes grantmaking, anti-racism training, career pathway development, and capacity-building.

When we began our work together, the organization needed a new name and messaging to refresh to help realign the organization’s stated priorities to sync more fully with the scope of their work, which had evolved to hone in on promoting racial equity and POC leadership in access to the outdoors and enriching outdoor experiences.

Meanwhile, they were launching a new grantmaking program and sunsetting another, and needed a name, messaging, and collateral for the new program, and a communications strategy to set them up for launch and expansion.

Ultimately, our work together was a huge success. We completed the organizational rename to Justice Outside, branded and launched the new Liberated Paths grantmaking program, and equipped the organization with an effective strategy that led to increased awareness for Justice Outside, and served their big-picture goals of national expansion and increased funding.

“We still use the brand book & messaging guidelines her team created. Through our growth, it has continued to serve us well.”
