Together Women Rise is a powerful community of women and allies engaged in education, advocacy, and grant-making to promote and achieve global gender equality. Formerly known as Dining for Women, this 500+ chapter organization was struggling with a dated name and logo, and conflicting viewpoints among members about equity and a vision for the future. Because of the collaborative nature of their community and a consensus-based decision-making style, the process of arriving at a name, set of messages, and communications strategy that met all of the organization’s diverse needs required a thoughtful and intentional approach. My team and I conducted a survey of the organization’s 8,000+ members, created brand working groups among staff, board, members, and major donors, and sought grantee input. Ultimately we crafted a fresh and modern new name, logo, and suite of messages that ensured members and allies saw their input and voices reflected. To help organizational leaders navigate a potentially challenging transition, we developed a detailed change management strategy and rollout plan. Thanks to good content, planning, training and support, the launch was a success. The new Together Women Rise identity was commended by members, grantees and funders alike–instead of facing backlash, their audiences celebrated a fresh and future-facing new brand for their beloved organization.
